Screening rates for older children are particularly low

In FY 1997, 65% of Michigan Children enrolled in Medical Assistance (338,261 individual children) did not receive any screen examination at all. Of these:

  • 174,209 were children ages 6-21 who did not receive a screen examination
  • 161,294 were toddlers -- ages 1 through 5 -- who did not receive a screening examination
  • 3,158 were infants who did not receive even one of the six required comprehensive screen examinations

 

Referrals for medically necessary corrective treatment through the EPSDT program is also decreasing.
