Action Alert - Support the Campaign for
a Lead-Safe America
The Campaign for a Lead-Safe America is celebrating the second annual observation
of National Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention (NCLPP) Week October 22-28.
Coordinating local activities focused on prevention and education will help
raise awareness of the severity of lead poisoning in your community.
Let's utilize this designated week to educate stakeholders and inform folks
in the community about what they can do to help eliminate this preventable
childhood risk.
Please find below some examples of ways in which your organization can organize
your community around the important issue of lead poisoning.
Distribute educational materials at fall activities (festivals, haunted houses, etc.)
Plan a block party around a newly restored lead-safe home or neighborhood
Couple with local schools and day care facilities to add lead poison information to newsletters
Sponsor a poster contest in your community with a lead poison prevention theme
Network with related organizations and companies to link up web sites pertaining to lead poison information
Lead the discussion about issues related to lead poisoning by writing an opinion editorial or letter to the editor to your local paper (see samples)
Alert community calendars about NCLPP Week and any sponsored events in your community
Educate local writers about the issue and encourage them to support your media efforts (see sample press release)
Utilize opportunities to inform candidates about the importance of lead poisoning and what they can do to improve legislature in this arena (see sample questions)
